Dont Let Your Credit Card Debts Cross The Line

Its been said that an average American has about 9 to 10 credit cards. Having that much credit cards simply means that you have high purchasing powers. You can actually just splurge on anything that catches your fancy; you dont actually give out cash at that instant.

Credit cards are so popular these days. Everyone seems to be using one everyday. Its also very easy to apply for a credit card. In fact, credit card companies are aggressively advertising their services so they could attract more people to sign up. Online and offline stores even encourage the use of credit cards by giving cardholders special discounts and promotions.

Its really very easy to get caught up in a huge credit card debt nowadays. In fact, a lot of people are already suffering from great financial losses just because of some credit card debts they were unable to pay. Most people forget that when they use their cards to purchase, they would eventually have to shell out cash to pay for that.

Paying for credit card purchases are usually even more expensive. Thats because you would have to pay for the interests. And credit card interest rates do not come cheap. In fact, theyre high enough that you might feel youre paying more on interest than the actual amount you borrowed.

Using your credit cards can really be addictive, but before you swipe your card, you would have to ensure that you would have enough funds to pay for your purchase. If not, you will soon find yourself caught in a huge debt cycle. Credit card debts are the most difficult to get out of, probably because of the high interest rates and the surcharges.

Just imagine the effect of a huge credit card debt on your finances. What if youll need money for emergency situations? If you have high credit card debts, chances are you wont be able to use your credit cards anymore. That also means that it wont be easy for you to apply for a loan since these kinds of debts reflect on your credit reports.

Irresponsible use of credit cards is usually to blame for your financial problems. So before you get another credit card, make sure that youre responsible enough to handle it. Also check that the credit card company offers competitive interest rates. If they have low rates, you might consider consolidating your credit card debts and opt for a balance transfer.

Though it will really be very difficult to lower down a credit card debt, there are still ways which can help you, like debt consolidation. Also, you might want to minimize the use of your credit cards until you could pay off a large portion of the debt. Limit your credit card purchases to important ones.

If somehow you feel that you credit card debt has increased without you knowing it, you could give your credit card company a call so they can check for any fraudulent activities. Credit card companies will be happy to help you with any fraudulent charges so you can lower your credit card debt.

Experts sat that the wisest way to use your credit card is that your credit card debt should not exceed half of your credit limit. In this way, when emergency situations happen, you have some option to turn to. Low credit card debts also translate to better credit score, which means that you can avail of better loan and financing schemes.

Mario Churchill offers low interest credit cards for business, students, or personal use while consolidating and eliminating bad credit debt. Apply today! Visit http://www.firstglobalcreditcard.comCybil Blog43796

5 Ways To Sell A Japanese Used Vehicle

Japanese cars are renowned for their quality. Some of the top used Japanese cars for sale are Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), Suzuki and Daihatsu. Many surveys have shown that most buyers shop online in purchasing their next used car. In this article we will discuss five key points on selling your car online.

1. Surf the web

The internet has many choices on finding the right site to advertise your vehicle. Choose a website that is popular and has a high ranking. Do choose a site that specializes in your make and model. Select a site that will continuously show case your ad. And last but not least find a site that is reasonable in fees.

2. Your ad

Using correct and distinct terms to describe your car will make your ad concise. This will attract the buyer to further reading your ad. Use key phrases and solid facts. State the year, make, model, milage, and maintenance records. Mention any non-standard added features and improvements. And also be precise about the price you expect and contact details.

3. Quality Photos

Do photograph your car in sunlight. Take different angle view shots of your car. Make sure before you photograph your car, that it is clean and washed from inside and out. Take pictures of the inside interior and any special features like tires or hub-cabs. Do have a flattering backdrop for your car when taking the pictures.

4. Inquires

Be prepared to answer questions, always keep a standard and basic list about your car on hand, near the phone and computer. Also make sure you can give out online resources to the buyer on your car. Choose specific times and dates for car viewing and showing.

If dealing with people outside your area, make sure the buyer knows its their responsibility to pick up or make arrangements on getting the car.

5. Protecting your investment and self

Never hand over your vehicle till you are paid in full. Verify the buyers information to make sure your not getting scammed. Find you out which method of payment is safest. Always protect your privacy, never give out more than you have to.

If you are in habit of changing to new models as brand new then I would highly recommend Japanese Makers. For more than two decades the impression of lesser safety in Japanese brands have been shifted to equally same standards as its German or American counterparts.

With these tips, you will hopefully find your self on the right track to selling your vehicle online.

2007 Honda CR-V Distinctive, Dynamic And Emotional Design For Honda Detroit

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced the all-new 2007 Honda CR-V is debuting at dealerships nationwide. Prices for the 2007 Honda CR-V range from $20,600 for the CR-V LX model to $26,000 for the CR-V 4-WD EX-L model. Honda's Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Recognition(TM) and rearview camera is available as a $2,000 factory-installed option.

The all-new CR-V features a sophisticated interior design that delivers near-luxury style along with improved refinement and a more powerful and efficient 166-horsepower, 2.4-liter, 4 cylinder engine. As part of Honda's industry leading "Safety for Everyone" initiative, all Honda light trucks, including the CR-V, are equipped with a Vehicle Stability Assist(TM) (VSA(TM)) system and a comprehensive list of standard safety features, including side curtain airbags with roll-over sensors, front side airbags with Occupant Position Detection System and anti-lock braking system. The 2007 CR-V features Honda's innovative Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(R)) Body Structure for enhanced frontal collision safety.

New features on 2007 CR-V models include:

- Distinctive, upscale, dynamic and versatile styling
- Standard safety equipment includes ACE Body Structure and Active Front Head Restraints
- Interior design and amenities deliver near-luxury style and refinement
- New body and chassis designs result in smoother, more agile performance and a quieter cabin
- 10 more horsepower (166 hp) and standard 5-speed automatic transmission
- Improved ingress/egress with optimized door designs and 1.3 inch lower step-in height than the previous generation CR-V
- Dual-deck cargo shelf (available)
- Available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with Voice Recognition

Worldwide, the CR-V is built in seven countries at eight factories, and for the first time it will be assembled using domestic and globally-sourced parts in North America at Honda of America Manufacturing in the East Liberty Plant (Ohio). A truly global product for Honda, the CR-V is sold in 160 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.

The Honda CR-V is a highly-versatile four-door entry crossover SUV with a roomy 5-passenger interior, sedan-like handling and comfort, and a reputation for offering the highest levels of standard safety features in the segment. The all-new 2007 Honda CR-V adds a dynamic sense of style and refinement, bridging the space between sport and utility better than any CR-V yet - while adding recently-developed collision compatibility safety enhancements like Honda's exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE(TM)) Body Structure.

Now in its third generation since its 1997 U.S. debut, the CR-V helped establish the crossover SUV segment - now the fastest growing portion of the light truck market and forecast to be the second largest automotive segment overall by the end of the decade. Sold in more countries than any other Honda vehicle, the CR-V is among the best-selling vehicles for Honda globally, cumulatively reaching approximately 2.5 million customers in 160 different countries over its lifetime.

As a crossover SUV, the foundation of the CR-V starts with unit-body construction for sedan-like on-road performance, maximized interior packaging, optimized safety construction and good fuel economy for an SUV. Since unit-body construction allows for interior space to be maximized, the CR-V's packaging provides generous 5-passenger interior space and superior cargo functionality relative to traditional SUV designs that are inherently less space-efficient.

The CR-V's new direction goes beyond evolution and results in more style in a smarter and more sophisticated package. The CR-V is designed to be the best balance of size and performance ideal for professionals or families who need a vehicle that can perform triple duty as a daily driver, a family hauler and as a platform for active outdoor lifestyles. At home on a snowy mountain road or in the valet queue downtown, the 2007 CR-V moves beyond conventional SUV styling with ultra-modern lines, a fashionable presence and a meticulous attention to detail.

A dynamic and emotional forward cabin blends the familiar CR-V identity into a sculpted lower body with modular and protective lower body styling. A new double grille and a side profile with an arched window shape accent the CR-V's distinctive and upscale presence. Adding to the clean lines, the spare tire now resides under the rear floor as opposed to the exterior of the tailgate

How To Get Cast In Television Commercials: Guaranteed Part 1

Before the drum roll and the big reveal, let's begin by understanding that this casting secret is for ADVANCED would be commercial actors and actresses. This is NOT a basics course on the entire 'casting for television commercials' genre.

Information on taking the right classes and getting agents and posing for head shots and picking your commercial acting niche appear elsewhere.

But for now, we concentrate on the big game...getting you cast in a commercial.

Okay, here's the process. Roll it. You've already come in and, with the casting director and her assistant running the camera, you've recorded your lines. More than likely you've done this with someone else from the same commercial or with the casting director themselves.

Things go only one of two ways...the creatives and the producer at the agency say 'nope' in the blink of an eye and you're gone...off to audition for that new dish soap spot, or they say 'play that guy one more time' and you're brought back. Hmmmmmm.

You want to be the second kind.

So now, you come in for call backs. This is where you do the same lines, but you do them much more in depth.

Here's the first real trick the casting director might not remember to tell you... WEAR THE EXACT SAME CLOTHES YOU WORE IN THE FIRST CASTING SESSION.

How come?

Because this way no one will differentiate between your first call and your call back. Meaning, there won't be an EASY way to tell if you've been properly directed on the tape by the creatives.

It's very important for you to realize that ultimately, your goal is to please the copywriter and the art director MOST. Endure the casting director (although they're usually very nice people) but embrace the creatives!

You wearing the same clothes is very important to the creatives, because you may do something in the first round of casting (the reason you got the call back in the first place) that you forget to do in the call backs. And get this, it might be something you're not aware that you do...

Remember, you got the call back because of something they saw in you. And if they don't see it in the call backs and they still want 'that special thing you do' then they'll always have it on the first tape. This is vitally important for you to cover this base as you go on more and more calls...assisting the process will get you cast.

Also, creatives like to be in control when presenting their selects to the client.

The casting selection is very important to a great spot and if you are on their favorites list from day one, you want to stay there.

Here's how to make sure that happens...

Make sure you ask the casting director if there was anything in particular the creative may have given him or her in terms of feedback.

Australian Outback: The Ultimate Journey

It begins with an imperceptible quickening of the pulse upon seeing birds in flight, the muted flap of wings silhouetted serenely against the crimson backdrop of sunset. Or listening to the ephemeral caress of the wind rustling tranquilly through the trees, you perceive an ancient whisper suspended in time, gently urging you onward to a place where magic can still be found...

For those who long to "get away from it all", if even for a long deserved vacation, an area still remains where one can follow that inner voice which promises to free the spirit, and rejuvenate the senses.

The Australian Outback. Mysterious, vast and uncompromising, its awe-inspiring vistas and sun-drenched deserts await the intrepid traveler who believes the journey, is as important as the destination.

Although the word "outback" describes the arid interior of Australia, the term more accurately denotes a feeling rather than a precise set of parameters. The ethereal stillness and expansive quality of the land induces a state of psychological emptiness, a meditative paradise of subtropical wetlands, stunning sanguine deserts, breathtaking waterfalls, red rock formations, rain forest and savanna, all teeming with diverse, exotic wildlife.

The history of the outback derives from it's first inhabitants, the Aboriginal Anagu people, who have lived within the majestic solitude of Australia's sacred inner regions for more than 40,000 years.

Their deep respect for the land was forged from the belief that every significant event or activity occurring at a particular location leaves behind a vibrational imprint, which can be accessed by what they refer to as "Dreamtime".

Through "Dreaming", the hidden power of mountains, riverbeds, waterholes and rocks is revealed, reconfirming the inherent connection between man and nature, which, with the passage of time, has gradually been forgotten.

What better place to reestablish that bond than the legendary area known as Ayers Rock. Located in the heart of the continent, this formidable outcropping of sandstone looming above the desert plain symbolizes the essence of the Australian outback.

Also known as "Uluru" by the Aborigines, they believe that dwelling within the spectacular formation is a source of energy called "Tjukurpa'", and that light can often be seen emanating from it's timeless walls.

The surface of Uluru is also notable for changing color throughout the day, often appearing to glow inexplicably with various hues of red, blue, and violet... a dancing, sporadic play of lustrous iridescence that gradually gives way to twilight, the sun setting in regal splendor below the seemingly infinite horizon.

Uluru has been an important focus of the spiritual life of the Aborigines for time immemorial. Hundreds of paintings which depict Aboriginal life cover the walls of caves that are interspersed throughout the revered monolith, a pictorial testimony to the traditions and beliefs of a people who have lived in harmony with the natural flow of the earth, and in doing so, receive emotional and spiritual sustenance from the source of all that was, all that is, and all that will be......

Edinburgh Quick Guide

It seems the same seagulls have been following your train all the way from London, across the open green spaces of celtic countryside and past countless fairy tale towns nestled precariously over craggy sea cliffs. The gulls' screeching mixes with the train whistles while echoing against the walls as you pull into Edinburgh's busy Waverly Station on a perfect July afternoon. The scent of simmering roast beef hits you as you head into the windy streets of one of Europe's most sophisticated captials where the population is well mannered in spite of a fast paced vibrant 21st Century momentum.

There's a lot to see and you might as well start with the famous Royal Mile. Be prepared for a steep climb because the narrow streets leading straight up the ancient volcano are more like staircases. But the shopping here in Old Town is worth the trip to this rival to Princes Street. Plus there's the added bonus of a tour of Edinburgh Castle. Edinburgh Castle will take several hours because you don't want to miss the Stone of Destiny or the room where Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to James VI. The food is very good and reasonably priced in the castle restaurant and you can eat outdoors; weather permitting. Make sure you stay around for the 1 o'clock gun salute which is fired from the ramparts every day except Sunday.

Around the Royal Mile you can buy everyrthing from kilts to knitwear, puppets, and St. Andrews golf balls. Shops include the Royal Mile Woolen Milles, Designs on Cashmere, James Pringles, Celtic Knitwear and the Shetland Connection make over- packing your suitcases a pleasure. For a more moderate budget there's Ness, where you can get Scottish authenticity without maxing out your credit card.

Princes Street is considered to be one of nthe most beautiful shopping districts in the world. With its nstunning panoramic view and Princes Street Gardens it has such highlights nas the Old Waverly Hotel, the Sir Walter Scott Monument, and the famous stores Jenners, Waterstone's, and Hector Russell.

But plenty of mystery still envelopes Edinburgh's streets of quaint Georgian and Victorian houses which strongly resemble well designed stage sets. This is after all, where former resident J.K. Rowling got the inspiration for her Harry Potter masterpieces. Better squeeze in that ghost tour quickly since dusk falls around 10 P.M. during the summer months. And nighttime will only last for a few.

If you're a dog lover you will want to see Greyfriars Churchyard. Even the smallest Scottish child can recite the story of little Bobby, the Skye Terrier, who devotedly kept vigil there beside his master's grave for fourteen years. While Lassie cornered the market for in brains and resourcefulness, the beloved Bobby wins for faithfulness. Expect a tearful trek to the monument for him near the churchyard.

Rounding out your trip you'll want to visit the National Portrait Gallery, the Ocean Terminal where the Royal Yacht Britannia is docked, the Writers' Museum, and the Edinburgh Photo Library. If you still possibly have any time left, stop by one of Scotland's most popular attractions, the Edinburgh Zoo.

What is the Best Method to Back up Data?

This being the age of internet, chat rooms, blogging and innovative hackers, their expectation never gets fulfilled. The news always leaks out or is methodically publicised by a rival or a gleeful hacker. Thereafter, insult is added to their injury as irate customers and the eager press demand explanations about every unsavoury detail of the incident. But data loss is not a problem affecting only the big players only any more. All of us deal with some amount of data and almost all of it is important to us. Albums have been replaced by .jpeg files, our music is inside the hard drive of our pc or laptop, and our emails are stored in offline folders or software like Microsoft Outlook. Students keep their study material in their machines, and a doctoral thesis is usually a file on the hard disk instead of being a thick volume bound in leather covers. It is, therefore, strange that we keep losing data because we have not taken the precaution of backing it up elsewhere. Several start-up home businesses have not seen the light of the day anymore after an initial incident of data loss. All of this underlines the importance of backup, which really cannot be overstressed.

Some Methods of Obtaining Backups

The method, or rather, the medium chosen for backing up data will depend on the volume of data to be stored, as well as the nature of the data. Some common methods are being enlisted below:

CD and Floppy: The floppy has largely gone out of use by now, due to its many limitations, small capacity and security problems. The CD is a good choice for obtaining backups, and is one of the favourite choices in both domestic and corporate spheres. It is cheap, readily available, portable and compatible with several file formats. Storing a CD and sharing information from it are also quite simple.

DVD: The DVD is a good choice for storing audio visual information. It may not be as cheap as the CD, but offers better quality, often lasts longer, and has way more space. DVD RWs can be used in such a way that literally every bit is used to store information. A DVD also has the same facilities when it comes to sharing and easy transporting. However, the DVD RW, many market observers feel, may turn out to be an intermediate technology and be replaced by something superior but very similar in function, or may evolve in such a way that the problems would get solved. It must be noted here that the constant research in this regard, and inventions like the Blue Ray disk etc. point out that we can hope for a better technology soon.

USB Devices: These are the new favourites all over the world. The greatest proof of the popularity of this technology lies in two facts. Firstly, the storage space of pen drives / flash drives/ memory sticks is constantly increasing. Secondly, their prices are plummeting downwards rapidly. Almost all kinds of files can be stored on these; they are very easy to carry, do not require a separate software or booting up of the machine to start functioning, and it is very convenient to share the data stored on them. For storing smaller music libraries, an iPod may be an option too.

External Hard Drives: For larger data storage requirements, external hard drives are excellent solutions. Arrays or stacks of hard drives are available for corporate purposes and are provided by all good hard drive manufacturers. Seagate, Maxtor, ASB, LaCie all make external hard drives of varying capacities and prices.

Online and Offline Storage Spaces: These are spaces provided by professional firms, and are extremely secure for sensitive data storage.

Tapes and Printouts: Traditional storage should not be left out of the list. There is some information that one simply needs to see on the good old piece of paper. Tape has been in use for a long time now, and will probably continue for some time.

15 Minute Investor Pt. 1

Investing in foreclosures for Resale is not so different from Investing in foreclosures for Rental income. Many of the same rules apply and many guidelines remain constant. As with any type of investment the point at which you enter will determine how profitably you exit. The single largest distinction between real estate and stocks, bonds, mutual funds or precious metal is that Real Estate allows the Investor the opportunity to have a more direct and immediate impact on the Investment vehicle (the house) through rehab, paint, carpet, etc. This article in this series on Real Estate Investing will demonstrate how to quickly make an assessment of a potential Real Estate investment.

The guide should allow the average investor to make a rapid and well-thought-out decision. An informed investor will not "lose out" because of third-party factors such-as obtaining appraisals or contractor/repair people. An aggressive, proactive approach by the Investor can reduce the time it takes to obtain properties. A passive approach or an offhand attitude does not promote good opportunities. Remember, work WITH your agent and get pro-active!

How to determine Equity

The old adage about the only the three words in business being "Location, Location, Location" is as true as ever. In Real Estate, however, those three words are "Equity, Equity, Equity". The difference between what is owed on a property and its Market Value is called equity. As an investor, the goal is to buy for less than the full value and sell for market value and make a profit in the process. So at what point does caution balance against risk to make a profit?

A strong equity position is generally targeted at 25% after repairs. An equity position less than 25% can work for rental investments, but for resale purposes 25% is a safe figure. In order to determine if 25% after repairs can be achieved there are only three variables that need to be weighed in the mind of an investor.

1. How much can I get it for?
2. How much can I sell it for?
3. How much will it cost to repair it?

It is not difficult to obtain answers to these questions as long as the readily available data can be quickly and accurately distilled into usable information. By using the following guide and examining each property in terms of these three variables it should not take more than fifteen minutes to determine if a particular foreclosure is a wise investment.
How much can I get it for?

First, ask what your agent knows about the particular foreclosured property.

1. How long has it been on the market? (Not vacant, but available for sale)
2. Can Investors bid on it? (Some properties are for owner/occupants only)
3. What does your agent think? (A good agent is worth his/her weight in gold.)

Second, look at the property yourself.

Is it a "fixer upper?" Is it "market-ready?" The cost to make a property ready to sell has to be considered as part of the cost of buying a property. Usually an eyeball will tell you how much of a commitment in funds will be required.

Third, be sure that you are willing to own the property for the duration.

While it is certainly possible to get in and get out without a serious commitment of finances, be ready to own the property until it is sold. Some banks have regulations stating you must take possession of a property before you can sell it again. If, for whatever reason, your buyer is unable to complete his end of the transaction, you need to be prepared to be the owner of the investment property until it eventually sells.

Fourth, Bid quickly and often.

Nothing is more frustrating than investing a lot of effort into a project for nothing. When considering Investments, do not hesitate and risk missing an opportunity. If a deal looks so-so (only a 10% equity position, for instance) BID LOW to achieve that 25% potentiality. It could be a good rental, or even a modest resale. And there is always the chance you might win the bid.

In Investing, as in life, "he who hesitates is lost". After submitting a bid, start looking for the next Investment. Don't delay a possible "big dessert" while waiting on the first course.

How much can I sell it for?

As a general rule of thumb most Investors are motivated to purchase with a minimum 25% equity position (after repairs). This requires two separate deductions in order to be sure of a 25% equity position. First the true market value of the subject property (after repairs) and second, the repairs.

In order to determine the true market value without ordering a full-blown appraisal, (both time and financially prohibitive) an Investor must look at comparable sales. "Comps" are available from your agent or online from services like HomePriceCheck. While the online services may serve as a general guide the comparables your agent can obtain will take into consideration many more factors. Look at the entire neighborhood in print format. Then consider the most recent sales that reflect the style and neighborhood of the subject property and compare them to your Investment property.

Tip#1: The rewards are greatest when the investor is a knowledgeable, pro-active force in the process. Take an active roll in your investment. (Placing Advertisements and selling your own properties is covered in another article.)

Tip#2: The figure for how many days on market (DOM) a property was available before its eventual sale will be found on the MLS listing. Be sure to ask your Real Estate Agent for these figures specifically so that a determination can be made regarding the desirability of a particular neighborhood, style of home etc

Tip#3: Along with "Sold" properties a look should be taken (in print) at other properties that are still "available" or "withdrawn" from the market to determine the health of the market.

5 Qualities to Look for in a Stewardship Consultant

With only 4 percent of American church members tithing, many churches badly need a boost in offerings. Unfortunately, most of us pastors have no training in stewardship development and have no idea how to lead people to generous, biblical giving.

The Bible tells us what to do in this situation: Hire a stewardship consultant. Okay, that's not exactly what it says, but the message is there. In Proverbs, the wisest man who ever lived tells us that 'Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed' (Proverbs 15:22). And when the apostle Paul wanted to make sure the Corinthians gave generously to the famine-relief collection, he sent men to Corinth to encourage the people.

'So we urged Titus that as he had previously made a beginning, so he would also complete in you this gracious work [the collection] as well.' (2 Corinthians 8:6).

'So I thought it necessary to urge the brethren that they would go on ahead to you and arrange beforehand your previously promised bountiful gift, so that the same would be ready as a bountiful gift and not affected by covetousness' (2 Corinthians 9:5).

Titus and his unnamed companions were the first church stewardship consultants. Just as we hire church staff members with specialized skills in music or youth ministry, so we should not hesitate to engage the temporary services of a minister with stewardship expertise.

All right, you're ready to take the plunge and look for help. How do you know how to find the right consultant? Having hired consultants while pastoring, and now serving as a stewardship consultant, I've concluded that there are five indispensable qualities you want in your stewardship consultant.

1. Biblical.

Above all other qualities, you want someone who builds their stewardship ministry on the word of God. In the Christian world, fundraising isn't primarily about raising money; it's about discipling people.

A good stewardship consultant deepens your people's spiritual walk by building the entire consultation on biblical principles--in both the methods used and the content delivered. God's people respond with great generosity when a pastor or consultant faithfully teaches what the Bible says about money and giving.

2. Pastoral experience.

I'm always amazed at the number of men and women who have never pastored a church, yet glibly dispense advice about how to do it right. You want someone who understands just how important it is that your people be approached tastefully and respectfully about money. Only someone who has been there can really understand the level of discomfort we pastors feel about talking about money, or the Byzantine complexity of internal church politics.

When the church I pastored interviewed stewardship consultants I wanted someone I could talk with pastor to pastor. We ended up hiring someone who had extensive pastoral experience. He had a wonderful ministry to me and our people. And we are good friends to this day.

3. Proven track record.

You want a stewardship consultant who can give you case studies with specific churches, pastors, phone numbers, email addresses, and dollar amounts raised. When the church I pastored was searching for a capital fundraising consultant, one of the biggest and most expensive companies was vague about how much money we could expect to receive. We found that unsettling.

We chose to work with Stewart McChesney of Titus Stewardship Ministries, because Stewart had a track record of raising 2.7 times a church's annual giving in three-year commitments. He charged two-thirds as much as the bigger company and he had years of experience. Under Stewart's wise guidance our people pledged over three times our annual giving in three-year commitments.

When looking for help with increasing weekly offerings, search for a consultant who has consistently helped churches increase giving by at least 30 percent.

4. Great references.

I just fired an Internet marketing coach because a friend alerted me to the fact that none of the references listed on her website checked out. (I had hired her through a larger organization who I-wrongly-trusted.) When I called her she told me her former clients didn't want to be bothered with phone calls. She wasn't at all moved when I pointed out that if a reference can't be contacted, it is worthless.

Insist that any stewardship consultant you are interviewing give you many excellent, contactable references. If she is evasive or makes excuses, you are in danger. Flee!

5. Personable.

You want a consultant who is warm, friendly, and easy to communicate with. Believe me, I have met more than one socially abrasive church consultant! Likeability is an especially important quality in a stewardship consultant because you've hired him to help you navigate the emotionally charged waters of asking for money. If your consultant isn't a warm people person, he may cause unnecessary conflict.

********

I believe it is God's will that every church reach its full giving potential. The secret is bold, biblical, pastoral leadership. And often that leadership is most effective when guided by the wise, biblical counsel of a godly stewardship consultant.

How Owning Your Own Domain Can Generate More Web Income

Owning your own domain gives you so much more freedom on the internet and I would say it is an absolute necessity to ensure success, as it gives you the option to make changes to your site as and when you need to.

By having your own domain you are in control of your site and your business and you will be able to design or make changes to your site so that it stands out in the crowd, makes your site unique and allows you to do the most important task of optimizing your site for the search engines so that your site can appear high up in the search results. You will also be able to project your own personality into the site.

By optimizing your site for the search engines your site will receive targeted traffic which is exactly what is required to generate web income. This basically is also free traffic if you optimize your site yourself and is known as organic traffic. Taking Google as an example, if you do a search the sites that appear on the right hand side of the page are Adwords adverts which are paid adverts. The sites that appear in the main body of the page starting on the left are free and if you have your own domain you can optimize your site so that it appears on the first page of Google. It has also been proven that the first place your eyes look at on a web page is the top left hand part of the page, so ideally that is where you want to position your site in the search results.

With your own domain your advertising options will not be limited, as they are with affiliate urls, as some sites just do not accept them. Also imagine if you were one of a few thousand affiliates belonging to the same program, you would all have the same url. If you had your own domain you could still join a few affiliate programs and then advertise those programs on your own site. Amongst other things, you could create your own splash pages for different programs, add a fly-in, a pop-up, contextual adverts or Google Adsense your options are not limited.

It makes linking so much easier too, as sometimes to get listed in a high ranked directory you will be asked to place a link-back on your home page, in the form of a text link or image. You could also add a reciprocal linking program to your site. You can so easily place advertising banners on your site, add articles or other items of interest to attract visitors to your site and have them stay on your site longer as well as increase your rankings in the search engines.

Free web tools are a great feature to offer on your site enabling the visitor to check their Link Popularity or Alexa Rating for example. It also enables you to add features to your site that encourage your visitors to return. Add a small piece of script enabling your visitors to bookmark your site. You can offer freebies such as e-books.

Then of course there is the option of adding video and RSS feeds to your site, linking it to your blog as well as all the other technical things available.

You would also be able to add your own email autoresponder campaign that automatically follows-up with your website visitors who subscribe to your Newsletter. So whenever you want to add new products, re-arrange your site layout, change the color scheme or anything you want, you can do it all instantly.

The list of what you could do by having your own domain is limitless, that is why I feel it gives you total freedom on the internet, increases your internet marketing options and generates more web income.

Offshore Banking Information

Offshore Banking

Offshore banking or Offshore banks refers to the many banking and investment institutions available in countries and jurisdictions other than the depositors home country. While technically any bank can be considered an Offshore bank when it meets the above criteria, the term is generally reserved for the banking institutions located in what are consider low-regulation, low-taxation haven jurisdictions.

Since their origin, Offshore banks tended to be unfairly portrayed by both media and the home jurisdictions alike--the accusations have ranged from tax evasion to money laundering, but careful examination of the true purpose of the Offshore banks, and an unbiased examination of where illicit funds are truly held or laundered sheds light on the situation. Other false accusations have centered around criticism of unsafe environments, poor regulation, etc. Again, these could not be further from the truth. Most Offshore banking jurisdictions of any repute have very sophisticated, stable banking regulations, and because it is in their best interest to attract and keep depositors, these regulations are geared towards meeting the needs of the depositor. Many of these jurisdictions rely on foreign capital held in their banks as their primary economic factor, and as their only source of foreign investment.

What is Offshore Banking?

The broad definition of an Offshore bank is that of a bank that is located in a jurisdiction or country that is different from the jurisdiction or country that the depositor or investor resides in. One of the many benefits of holding an Offshore banking account is that they are usually located in tax havens that provide substantial asset protection and confidentiality benefits to the account holder. These jurisdictions also often allow for a relaxation of restrictions with respect to the types of accounts available to depositors or investors, and how then can manipulated. This amounts to decreased regulation. The more popular offshore jurisdictions often provide a substantial decrease in tax liability. While technically any bank outside of a depositors home country can be called an offshore bank, for our purposes here we will focus only on those proven to provide quantifiable benefits as outlined above. These Offshore banks can be located in actual island-states such as the Caymans or Channel Islands, or in landlocked countries such as Switzerland--being surrounded by water is no longer a determining factor.

As mentioned in our opening paragraph, there are a number of misconceptions and myths associated with offshore banking in these offshore financial centers Are Offshore Banks the Haven of Money Launderers and Criminals? We have additional information on Offshore Banking Myths that should be taken into consideration.

Where Should an Offshore Bank Account be Established?

It is important that the proper jurisdiction be selected when deciding which jurisdiction to use as an offshore banking jurisdiction. The majority of the offshore jurisdictions have prudent, sound regulations in place geared towards safeguarding the deposits and maintaining their confidentiality. However, some weigh their benefits in taxation, while others in confidentiality, and so forth. Though they all offer a comparatively confidential and secure environment, it bears consideration to outline what the banking goals are and then choose the jurisdiction accordingly. A small minority of the offshore jurisdictions do a poor job of managing and regulating their banking institutions, but the informed investor or advisor will deem these as unsuitable for themselves or their clients. Further, these poorly organized and run jurisdictions are often manipulated by illicit depositors and hence prove easy targets of the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) looking for money laundering or other criminal activity.

Offshore Banking History

It is an unfortunate fact that Europeans have always been subjected to relatively heavy tax burdens. This was as true on the British Isles as it was on the continent. Faced with the prospect of watching their hard earned assets and wealth diminish with every out-reach of the tax collectors hand, they were ripe for a solution. And a solution came--the small, island nation state known as the Channel Islands convinced these frustrated depositors that deposits placed in its banks could be free from scrutiny and hence the heavy-handed taxation burden. The Euros were convinced--and soon this service thrived, with other small jurisdictions becoming savvy to this foreign capital-attracting status and they began to revamp their banking institutions, adopting sound, pragmatic banking rules and regulations that eased the potential concerns of investors and depositors. The Offshore bank was off to a running start!

And soon the term Offshore banking became synonymous with any smaller, haven jurisdiction that offered safe, secure, confidential banking with practical regulations. Soon the rest of the world was in the know, and began to look at these havens as viable solutions to their needs. Americans, Africans, Asians, etc., found these Offshore banks quite useful for a myriad of reasons. Unlike their banks at home, these Offshore banks were not regularly subjected to political turmoil or economic strife, and were most welcome for their stability and asset protection benefits.

In the years since they have come into greater use and thus more visible, offshore banks and accounts have been unfairly portrayed by the media and by the larger jurisdictions as the stomping grounds of the criminal underground--a veritable haven for their illicitly-obtained assets and funds, or the choice locales for their money-laundering schemes. Money-wise investors and depositors have long known that these prejudices could not be further from the truth. They know that offshore banks can be remarkably effective havens for assets and funds in need of safe, secure, confidential keeping. They know that these banks can safeguard their funds from the perils of civil, economic, or political strife in their home countries. Today, offshore banks continue to keep their end of the bargain and continue to provide a safe, confidential haven for those seeking to safeguard their assets and funds from the perils of undue regulation and taxation.

Many a discriminating depositor has benefited from the safe, confidential, and low taxation environment that Offshore banking has to offer. While it is important to assess your goals and discuss these with a competent, experienced agent before leaping into un-chartered waters, there are many unquestionable benefits provided by establishing an Offshore account. Their reputation among depositors and investors for providing a viable banking location featuring protection from liability and confidentiality is growing, and Offshore banks will continue with this hard-earned reputation for asset protection, tax reduction, and superb confidentiality of deposits.

Sending a Child to College? Use a Professional Philadelphia Moving Company

Every year, around August, a large number of young adults head to college. When it comes to going to college, there are many students who are making the decision to leave home. This decision often means relocating to another city or state. If you are the parent of a child that is about to go off to college, it is likely that you will need to move them. If your child is planning on renting in their own apartment, they may need to bring more of their belongings than most other students. That is why you may want to think about hiring the services of a professional moving company.

When it comes to hiring the services of a professional moving company, there are a number of different things that you should consider. Perhaps, the most important thing to keep in mind is where your child will be attending college. If they are planning on moving to or even from the Philadelphia area, you may want to consider hiring the services of a professional Philadelphia moving company.

If you are interested in using a professional Philadelphia moving company, you will first have to find a company to do business with. This can easily be done by using recommendations from those that you know, the internet, or a Philadelphia phone book. Once you have familiarized yourself with a number of Philadelphia moving companies, you will want to contact each moving company for additional information. When contacting Philadelphia moving companies, it is important that you ask a number of questions.

One of the questions that you should ask is how far their services extend to. Depending on where your child is traveling to or from, you may find it difficult to find a Philadelphia moving company that can offer you service, especially if that distance is long. With that being said, you should be able to find at least one moving company that can offer you assistance; however, it will be important to note the cost. Typically, the longer the distance, the more a professional moving service will cost.

Including the cost and the areas serviced, it is also important to ask about the services that are included in the cost. If you are unable to assist your child with unpacking their belongings, you may want to acquire the service of a Philadelphia moving company who can. While most movers will not physically help your child unpack, they will unload their belongings. In fact, most professional movers will even take those belongings to whichever room your child wants.

After you have asked these important questions, and others, you may want to compare your results. It is likely that you will find that not all moving companies cover the same areas, offer the same services, or charge the same amount of money for those services. To find the Philadelphia moving company that can best assist your college bound child, you want to compare the services offered with what you need. Doing so should result in the perfect match.

Preparing Your Home For Toddler Safety

Children from age one to age three are considered toddlers. It is a time of learning their environment. It is a time for them to explore every corner of every room and everything in between. Remember that the world is new to them and they want to get to know it.

Exploring is a good thing. It is a natural part of their growth. As your toddler explores they gain knowledge, independence, and confidence. It teaches them to use all five of their senses. It teaches them how to put things together, how things work, and enlarges their world moment by moment. They should be encouraged to explore your home, within limits of course.

It can be very difficult to keep up with your toddler and they can get from point A to point B in the time it takes you to turn around for just a second to do your normal daily chores. So you need to have confidence that your home is safe for your toddler to explore, even when you arent watching them.

In this article, we will explore areas of your home and help you identify danger zones, then help you fix them so your explorer is safe in his new adventures. Remember, in every room of the house, get on your hands and knees and look at the world from your toddlers point of view. This will give you a better perspective on the dangers that lurk there.

Lets start where your toddler starts his or her day, their bedroom.

Is the glass in your toddlers bedroom made of tempered glass? Non-Tempered glass is dangerous, because it does not break into the tiny pieces that safety glass does. If your toddlers windows are non-tempered, you can either have new window glass installed or apply security film to them. The film is a much less expensive solution and binds the pieces of glass together if the window is ever broken.

Also, window locks are an essential item to have throughout the house, including your toddlers room. They allow a window to be open, but not too far. Never leave the window open more than four inches. Gates with vertical slats can also help prevent your toddler from falling out of the window. Screens will not hold them!

Placing your toddlers bed or crib in the proper place is also important. Experts recommend the space between the bars be no wider than two and three-eighths inches apart. Do not place your toddlers crib or other furniture under the window or near baseboard or other heaters.

Items left in the crib need to be at a minimum. Make sure your toddler cannot stack or use those items to get out of their crib. You might be surprised how inventive your toddler can be when he or she wants to get somewhere. Youll turn around and find them in some of the most impossible spots you can imagine.

Look around for any cords or other dangerous items. As your toddler gets more mobile these items present a great danger to them. Make sure you tie all cords and similar items well out of their reach. Any item that is longer than seven inches can be a danger to your toddler. Make sure they cannot get to them and remember your toddler will be more inventive and curious than you might think.

Of course, all medications, baby powder, lotion, and other items must be kept out of reach or stored in a childproof cabinet in your toddlers room.

Do not use extension cords in your toddlers room or anywhere else in the house where they can reach them. The danger of strangulation or electrocution is very real and should be taken seriously. Make sure you buy protective covers for all outlets. Having the outlets installed higher up the wall, out of reach of your toddler is an even better solution and much more convenient for you.

Hiding outlets behind furniture that your toddler cannot move or get behind is another solution until you can do more. The advice on electrical outlets also applies to the rest of the house so I wont be covering that again for every room.

Parents and toddlers both spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so well go there next.

Emergency phone numbers should be located everywhere there is a phone, including the kitchen. In a time of stress it is difficult to think straight or find phone books and the phone numbers you need, so keep them handy at all times.

Not just for toddler safety, but for all homes, there should be a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Take care of that right away, especially if you are a parent.

Toddlers love to climb into things like cabinets, your dishwasher, stove, and refrigerators. Make sure the dishwasher is always latched. Use childproof locks on your cabinet doors and on your refrigerator. They even make latches for your oven.

Speaking of the oven, maybe the most dangerous spot in the kitchen for your curious toddler use a stove guard to protect them. A stove guard keeps them from being able to reach the burners. Cook on your back burners whenever possible. If the controls for the stove are placed on the front of the stove, you will need to remove them.

Train yourself to not use any lower cabinets like under the sink to store hazardous products. Even soap is dangerous. Many soaps contain lye and can poison your child. This applies to all rooms where you store products, including the laundry room. Remember, if it can be reached, it will be reached.

Now do the same for all sharp objects like knives, forks, scissors, pizza cutters, and ice picks. Train yourself to put these items away every time you use them.

If you keep liquor in the kitchen or have a bar in your house where they are kept, make sure your toddler cannot reach it. The tiniest bit of alcohol can make a small child very sick and too much could prove fatal.

Ok, you get an idea of what to do in the kitchen, now lets head for your bathroom.

A huge number of accidents occur in the bathroom each year affecting both adults and toddlers. Its a good thing to keep that in mind when preparing your bathroom for safety.

Overhead door locks are available to be purchased and used to keep toddlers out of rooms that are not in use. You should buy these and install them on all bathroom doors.

If you have any low cabinets, get childproof locks for those the same as it was advised for you to do in your kitchen. All medications, ointments, shampoos, soap, and other products should be kept out of your toddlers reach.

Do not leave hairdryers, electric shavers, radios, and other appliances plugged in. Its a good idea to keep those out of reach as well because the cords are hazardous to your toddler.

Fire Departments recommend that your water temperature should be set at 120 degrees. Setting your hot water heater higher than that produces the danger of scalding.

Water safety applies in the bathroom, the same as it does for any pool area. A child can easily drown in your bathroom. It only takes two inches of water to create a drowning hazard. Do not leave the tub full of water and buy locks for your toilet seat. Not only can those save your toddler from drowning, it can also help you avoid the headaches of learning the types of things your toddler can find to plug the toilet with.

Your toddler should never be alone in the bathroom. If you are bathing them and have to leave, dry them off and take them with you. Better safe than sorry, as the saying goes.

Your toddler will also spend a lot of time in your family room, den, or living room, so lets explore that area before we allow them to.

Do you have plants? These seemingly harmless and decorative plants may pose a very dangerous problem for your child. Are you sure that none of your plants are poisonous? Look up information about your plants in an encyclopedia, online, or consult a poison control center to be sure.

Do you have a fireplace? You can purchase guards for fireplaces at many stores. Glass fire screens are not acceptable. They get very hot and can burn your toddler if they touch it. Make sure you create a safe area around the fireplace and that your toddler cannot get into it. Where they can go, they will and the fireplace is an obvious hazard, whether it is lit or not.

Make sure all the doors in your house are safe. If they have metal doorstops, replace them with doorstops that are made entirely of rubber. Doorstops are inviting to young children who play on the floor.

As difficult as it sounds, all furniture should be placed away from the windows. Windows pose a danger to your toddler and they will climb the furniture before you know it.

Is any of your furniture easy to tip over? Floor lamps and other items, which can be turned over easily, are dangerous. Either get rid of them or secure them to a wall somehow.

Also, if your furniture in any room of the house has sharp corners, something needs to be done about it. Either purchase furniture without sharp corners or buy cushions that can be placed over the corners. You can also make your own. Just be sure its well padded so the corner cannot cause serious injury.

If you have a home office, I could write a whole article about the dangers for your toddler there. Use the overhead door locks to keep your toddler out of your office if possible. Thats the best advice and might save you having to do a lot of work over again after your toddler gets through with it.

Do you take your toddler into your bedroom?

Make sure all lower drawers and cabinets have childproof locks on them, closet doors have overhead locks, and any chests or other items are also locked.

Jewelry is especially dangerous for your toddler to get their hands on. Cosmetics can be poisonous. Sharp objects like manicure sets or sewing kits can also be dangerous. Again, make sure all cords are tied up where they are out of your toddlers reach.

Do you have older children? Lets see what hazards wait in their bedrooms.

You are probably careful about the types of toys you buy for your toddler, but are you careful to make sure they dont get their little hands on the toys you buy for your older children? You will need your older children to assist you in keeping their toys out of your toddlers reach. This is a very difficult task, but you have to remember toys made for older children can harm younger ones.

Are there stairs in your home?

You will need to purchase gates for the top and bottom of the staircase if you have a toddler in your home. This is a must. They should have vertical slats no more than two and three-eighths inches apart and should be sturdy and secure. Finding a way to bolt them to the walls is best.

If your banisters have more than four inches of space between supports, then you will have to solve that issue as well. You can use particle board, plywood, plastic or other sheeted product to cover those areas and keep your toddler from slipping between supports and onto the stairs alone.

This article in no way covers all the things you will need to do to make your home a safe place for your toddler to explore, but it is our hope we have gotten you in the right frame of mind to find the rest on your own.

Sabah Malaysia Overview

The second largest state in Malaysia, Sabah is the northernmost province on the island of Borneo and together with Sarawak, is known as east Malaysia.

Called the Land below the wind, probably due to it being situated just south of the typhoon belt it is a popular destination for people looking for something a little different from the rest of Malaysia.

Despite its closeness to Sarawak it shares little of its neighbors tribal diversity and its culture tends to follow the lines of the nearby Philippines though, unlike Sarawak it shares strong Islamic traditions with the rest of peninsular Malaysia.

For those with a taste of adventure, Sabah has got it all. From her golden sanded beaches to her towering mountains and jungles where one of the highest mountains in South-East Asia and popular attractions, Mount Kinabalu proudly reigns.

Among nature lovers, Sabah is legendry and her jungles teem with life, some species of fauna and flora still undiscovered or unrecorded today, lie hidden in her generous, though rapidly decreasing lap.

It is here that you will see the rare and endangered Orang-utan, often known as the Wild man of Borneo, but due to deforestation throughout the area, sightings of these chestnut apes in the wild, is becoming a rarity.

The gateway to Sabah and its capital is the relatively new town of Kota Kinabalu or K.K. as its usually called. This is an excellent stepping off point when visiting other parts of the state and offshore islands in the area.

Climate

Sabah has an equatorial climate. Temperatures rarely rise above 32C except on exceptionally hot days and along the coastal areas rarely drops below 20C at night. Although in the interior and at higher altitudes it can get quite cold at nights. Relative humidity is usually 85-95 per cent.

Rainfall is common throughout the year and varies from about 150 cm to over 450 cm per year. In most parts of Sabah the wetter period occurs during the north-east monsoon from October to February and the drier season during the south-west monsoon from March to September.

From Christchurch to Bangkok: No Ordinary Travel Experience

Things started off well, I felt organized and ready to jump on that plane. This was the first stage of my month long trip through 6 different countries. It was my first time out of Australasia and I was very excited at the prospect of encountering new sights, sounds, tastes and cultures.

The flight from Christchurch to Auckland was nice and smooth even though the pilot had warned of some turbulence, I sat next to a nice old lady who had been to Thailand before and she good things to so about it. It was all going perfectly to script until I arrived at Auckland airport to find my flight to Bangkok was delayed by three hours. The airline gave us a lunch voucher as compensation so it wasn't all bad.

I sat right in the back corner of the plane but didn't find it too uncomfortable, there was a lot to keep you busy and the time flew by (pardon the pun) with all the movies, TV shows and games at your disposal. I got a little cramp but when you sit in the back of the plane with the cheapest tickets that's to be expected. I enjoyed having a window seat, which allowed me to take in some great views, especially over the Australian outback.

Coming into Bangkok was amazing, they were having a huge storm and it was hard to see anything at first but then BANG! A huge bolt of lightening and everything lit up like it was the middle of a summer's day. The illuminated clouds and city lights were truly spectacular.

Bangkok, Thailand, let the fun begin! It didn't take very long, we arrived at 2am local time and I was expecting a torrid time through customs. Much to my surprise, security was at a minimum, after getting our passports checked we basically just strutted through the rest of the airport like we owned the place, I swear the customs security guy was asleep at his camera, crazy but hilarious at the same time.

We then moved on to the main part of the airport. I'd been rehearsing my techniques of brushing off people determined to sell my stuff but my dad (who I was traveling with) obviously hadn't. He spent 20 minutes talking with some random guy who had offered him a "special" tour deal exclusive to him and nobody else. Luckily I bailed him out before he'd signed off his life savings. That was our first taste of Thai people trying to sell us stuff, there was a lot more to come and boy were they persistent.

We found a taxi rank and eventually explained to the driver where we wanted to go. I still can't decide whether I found the next 30 minutes of my life exhilarating or bloody scary but we hurtled down a bumpy highway at well over 140kph. There were no seat belts but thankfully the amazing sights kept my mind occupied.

Bangkok is crazy, it felt like the exact opposite of New Zealand. It's so hot, crowded, messy and humid. There's so much to take in, from Sony billboards to market side stalls, people hanging off motorcycles and random roadside shrines.

The taxi driver took the liberty of a few extra laps before we got to the hotel, it's annoying because you know he's not really "lost" but there's not much you can do and it's only a few extra cents. It had clearly been raining a lot, with water everywhere along the roads and through the hotel car park.

After checking in, the manager tells us that we can't have our rooms because the storm has flooded them, it's 3am, we've been traveling for hours and we've got no room! Aargh! They set us up in the lounge with a complementary croissant, yippee! Not the best first impression of Thai hospitality.

Ironically if our plane had been on time we may have got flooded while in the room, sleeping! The staff tried to make us feel better by putting on a movie to pass the time, whoops, they couldn't work out how to use the machine, nice try guys. At this point I marveled at how I was in such a good mood, I'd had no sleep but perhaps the thought of the adventures to come were keeping me awake and in good spirits.

Buy Home Decor to Suit your Home's Character

For the first nineteen years of my life I lived in the same town in my parents home. Whatever home decor there was interested me little, it was just there. Then I went to Italy for a year and lived with an Italian Duke and his family. They lived in a villa in Rome. There I noticed the home decor. The rooms were huge. The Duchess had a penchant for elaborate baroque wall mirrors. They were everywhere, with the rest of the home decor to match. Most days the gardener cut arms full of fresh flowers. I often helped to carry them because I liked to follow him around so that I could look at the classical art statue sculptures and fountains. They, and marble benches, strategically placed between the trees and flowers, were the garden decor. Since I liked to do it, it soon became my job to arrange the flowers in decorative vases. I had a free hand in placing them on tables, cabinets and plant stands. It wasn't exactly decorating, but it gave me a satisfying feeling to contribute something to those marvelous rooms.

After one year I moved to Paris, France. Not much scope for home decorating there. I lived in a tiny furnished room, where the home decor consisted of a narrow bed, a pine wood chair, a wardrobe and a wood cabinet with a washbowl. A bare light bulb hung from the ceiling. All I added was a decorative mirror, a reading lamp and a crystal vase, which I kept filled with fresh flowers from the market.

After that it was great to move into a house near Los Angeles, California, which I shared with my sister. Without much planning, we decided what we needed and went out to buy whatever appealed to us. As nice as the furniture had looked in the showroom, somehow, in that house it did not seem right. For one thing, it was much too massive and the colors clashed with the paint colors and window coverings. We did not have much time to stew over it since we both carried a full load of courses at the college and worked four hours after class and eight on Saturdays.

The day after I graduated, I got married and my wonderful husband and I moved into an apartment near his work. At first I had fun buying new furniture and making the place look nice, but soon I realized that apartment living was not for me. I missed wandering between the flowers and sitting on the garden bench under the open sky with that first cup of coffee.

As soon as our lease was up, we moved into a house on a steep hillside. We used the furniture we had, even though it looked somewhat out of place. Going around to flea markets and buying items without thinking whether they would fit in with what we had, did not help. At the same time my husband inherited his uncle's collectible knives, swords and sabers. They presented a real challenge for me. What was I to do with home decor like that? Mother Nature soon took care of my dilemma. The house and most of what we owned was burned in the Bel Air fire.

Of course I was very sad about the loss, yet I was excited.

Here was my chance to start all over again and this time I intended to make the home decor match the house. We rented a bungalow with a slanting roof, dark, exposed beams and lots of windows. We moved in with just a few borrowed necessities and stacks of home decor magazines and books. As I saw pictures of things that appealed to me, I would sit in different corners of the empty room I wanted to furnish and envisioned those things in place. It was a great method to decide on my selection. Lime green and lemon yellow were very much in fashion then and probably would have looked ghastly in any of the other dwellings we had had. But in that house, with the dark beams, dark oak flooring and big windows framed by citrus trees, I could envision that it would look nice. And it did. It was a delightful home.

A year later my husband decided to go back to college for his Masters Degree. We loaded what we could into our Volkswagen Bus, sold the rest of our belongings and headed for Austin, Texas, accompanied by two babies and a cat. Money was tight and home decor took a back seat to all else. Like so many student accommodations, ours had a lot of make-do furnishings. The bricks and boards book shelve, the milk crate and plywood tables and second hand sofas and beds. Our newborn slept in what used to be a packing box for toilet paper, nicely lined with colorful fabric. It didn't seem to matter. I devoted my time to my children. My husband devoted his time to his studies .

In less than twelve month he got his degree and was recommended by his professor to a company in Pasadena, California.

We found a lovely cottage style home. Once again I was absolutely thrilled to be able to start decorating from scratch, since we had brought nothing with us. I went through the routine of sitting in different corners of the empty rooms and envisioned what, of the things I had seen in magazines and home decor stores, would look good in that house. I settled on country cottage style home decor and in the end, of all the homes we had lived in, this one, still today, was the one we felt most comfortable and at home in.

Our bliss lasted for almost two years until my husband was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia. Fortunately the company let us fly there ahead of time to check the place out and I could see right away that in the colonial style homes we looked at, country cottage home decor would never do. My husband came to an agreement with his company, that instead of paying for the movers to transport our furniture, they would give him a lump sum.

With great pleasure I acquainted myself with colonial style home decor, sat in the empty rooms envisioning what to put where and in the end came up with a truly elegant period masterpiece. What a delight it was to entertain in that house.

I should have known that it would not last but must admit that I said yes faster than my husband when his boss offered him a job in Nepal. We had no idea what to expect in that country. Things seemed primitive compared to what we were used to but we loved it. We found a rather grand looking house where the water pipes and electrical lines were all outside the walls. The fuse boxes were right by the entrance so that everybody could see that this house was modern enough to have such luxuries. The floors were naked cement and there was no heating. Sitting in corners of the empty rooms to envision them furnished did not do it here either, since there were no stores where one could just go and buy furniture. Simple beds, with hemp cords strung between the sides and badly made whicker chairs were all one could buy ready made. Other expatriates advised us to get pictures of home decor we would like to have and take them to a carpenter who may or may not come up with something similar. We did and also found a place in the bazaar where we could order coir carpeting. It did not look like much but felt invigoratingly rough under bare feet. Dishes, cutlery and whatever else one needs in a home also were of ghastly quality, but it did not matter, nobody else had anything better, except for embassy staff, who got everything shipped in. Slowly the pieces of furniture we had ordered were delivered and little by little the place started to look like a home. Finally we could reciprocate for all the many invitations we had accepted from ex pats and local people alike. We might not have had the home decor we would have liked but since the electricity often failed anyhow, by candlelight it did look delightful. Besides, we had one of the best cooks in Katmandu and visitors told us that they would have come to eat his food, had the house been empty.

We were supposed to go back to the United States after my husbands contract was up but even before that, his boss wanted him to transfer to Madras, India. By good fortune we found an almost new bungalow which had been build on stilts so as to not disturb the roots of a huge holy tree in front of it. The house was built in a square around a courtyard with a mango tree in the middle and all rooms had big glass double doors opening out to it. When I saw the place, I could immediately envision a garden theme and was glad to find fabrics with a lattice and bamboo design for the curtains and matching green upholstery for the sofas and chairs we had made. Even though it took many trips to the bazaar, and frequent reminders to the carpenters, eventually all the home decor complimented the garden feeling I had wanted to achieve. It was like living outdoors.

After that we moved fourteen more times, always to different countries, all over the world, without ever bringing any furnishings with us. Each time I went through the same process of sitting in the empty rooms, envisioning the results I wanted to create, then finding the right home decor. The look was always perfect for that particular house.

Few people move as much as I did. For them it is even more important, right at the beginning, to decorate their home to suit it's character. Having chosen what looks right then will still look right years later.

Take a tour of Scandinavia's capital cities

Scandinavian exports to the world have varied in type over the last century; from Abba to Brigitte Neilson, IKEA to Nokia mobile phones, Scandinavian goods and personalities have continued to spread throughout our everyday culture. Despite this, tourism to Scandinavia has only taken off recently, with more and more people in Europe and beyond braving its weather conditions to enjoy its many beautiful cities and landscapes. An ideal holiday idea for the first-time traveller to Scandinavia would be a tour of all the capital cities - Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki - as a way of fully enjoying the delights of the region.

Denmark, for example, may have been in the news recently for more controversial reasons, but its capital, Copenhagen, is popularly ranked as one of the world's best cities to live in, despite its high cost of living. Established annual events include the Copenhagen Jazz Festival (http://festival.jazz.dk/start.asp?l=2 ), which supports the flourishing jazz scene that has existed in the city for many years; the city is also very popular with homosexual travellers due to its active gay community. It annually hosts a gay pride festival, as well as the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Copenhagen, held in late October.

Stockholm, Sweden's capital, is often referred to as "the Venice of Scandinavia" due to the numerous water channels running through the city. Stockholm also has a rich cultural past that makes it very attractive to foreign visitors; the "Gamla Stan", or Old Town, is an impressive vestige of the medieval architecture, which includes the Riddarholmskyrkan (the city's oldest building), Stockholm Palace and Storkyrkan Cathedral. Stockholm also has over 70 museums, including the Swedish National Museum of Fine Arts, which possesses an extensive collection of fantastic pieces, including works by Rembrandt and Antoine Watteau, as well as many important Swedish artists.

Oslo and Helsinki may not be quite as popular with the majority of mainstream tourists; however they offer much of interest for the potential visitor. Oslo, for instance, is a popular centre for music in Norway, and Scandinavia at large. The world famous Lillehammer Bluesfestival, held every April, is a popular event, as is the Lillehammer Jazzfestival, and the Lillehammer Classic Rock Festival. The Oslo Concert Hall professes to cater to all musical tastes, and The Norwegian Opera is one of Europe's foremost centres of classical opera and ballet.

Finland may have reached the headlines with their Eurovision win this year, through the efforts of rock-shockers Lordi, but this image is at odds with its high brow cultural scene. Helsinki's numerous theatres are widely acclaimed and the capital is also home to various national museums and art galleries. Sometimes known as "the daughter of the Baltic", visitors to Helsinki can also enjoy the Suomenlinna naval fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the open-air museum of Seurasaari Island. Its persistent darkness during the winter months provides a great opportunity for interesting lighting, as in Aleksanterinkatu's famous Christmas street.

Visitors to Scandinavia's capitals will find a selection of affordable and conveniently located independent hotels, as well as the region's largest hotel chain, Scandic Hotels (http://www.scandic-hotels.com/ ). Make sure you book your tour of Scandinavia now, before the word gets out!
